Huawei Cloud Partners With Thndr to Advance Cloud and AI in Egyptian Fintech
Huawei Cloud has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thndr, an Egyptian digital investment platform, to expand the use of cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) in financial services. The agreement was finalized during the Huawei Cloud Fintech Summit 2026 and is aimed at supporting technological innovation, operational efficiency, and secure digital infrastructure for financial services in Egypt.
The partnership comes as financial institutions and fintech companies across the region continue to invest in infrastructure that can support growth, data security, and more intelligent customer experiences. According to Huawei Cloud, its offering combines computing, storage, and networking capabilities designed to help financial institutions scale their operations. The company also provides a financial-grade AI platform intended to support automated models and services.
For Thndr, the collaboration is expected to reinforce its expansion as it works to make investing more accessible and inclusive across Egypt and the wider region. The company said it sees further opportunities to scale its platform through cloud and AI technologies.
Huawei Cloud’s Local Presence in Egypt
Huawei Cloud established a public cloud region in Egypt in 2024 to support local data sovereignty and digital growth. The platform holds a Tier 3 license and certification from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. It also complies with requirements from the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority for data localization, meaning sensitive financial records are stored and processed within the country.
This local infrastructure is significant for financial services providers operating in regulated environments, where data residency and security requirements are central to digital transformation strategies. By maintaining compliance with local regulatory standards, cloud providers can offer financial institutions a framework to deploy advanced technologies while meeting national requirements.
Executives Highlight the Role of Cloud and AI
Jo Xu, CEO of Huawei Cloud Egypt, said the partnership with Thndr builds on the company’s momentum in the market and will focus on delivering advanced cloud and AI solutions. He said these tools are intended to improve the efficiency of digital financial services and enable more intelligent, adaptive customer experiences.
Ahmad Hammouda, Co-Founder and CEO of Thndr, said the company’s mission is to make investing more accessible, simple, and inclusive for millions of people in Egypt and the region. He added that Thndr is pleased to strengthen its collaboration with Huawei Cloud as it continues to scale its platform and explore new opportunities enabled by cloud and AI technologies.
Industry Analysis
The agreement reflects a broader shift in fintech toward infrastructure-led growth, where cloud computing and AI are increasingly viewed as essential tools rather than optional upgrades. For Egyptian fintech companies, the availability of locally compliant cloud services may help reduce barriers to scaling digital investment products while meeting regulatory obligations.
It also suggests that AI-driven financial services in Egypt may continue to expand as providers seek to improve efficiency, automate processes, and personalize user experiences. As fintech competition intensifies, partnerships like this one may become a key strategy for combining innovation with regulatory compliance and operational resilience.
