Sinder launches UAE beta for travel-focused AED account and Mastercard debit card

Dubai-based travel fintech Sinder has launched a staged beta for UAE residents, introducing an AED account with a local IBAN and a Mastercard Platinum debit card. The company said the product is designed to simplify international spending for users who travel frequently from the UAE.

Through the Sinder mobile app, customers can open and manage an account, receive either a virtual or physical card, fund their balance, track spending, and access travel-related tools. The service is built around international card usage while keeping account activity visible and manageable inside the app.

Sinder’s Founder Card carries no annual or monthly subscription fee. International purchases are deducted directly from the customer’s AED balance at the Mastercard Exchange Rate, with no Sinder FX markup within an AED 40,000 monthly worldwide spending allowance. Above that threshold, the company applies a 0.5% weekday markup or a 1.5% weekend markup, but only on the excess amount. Sinder said its pricing and plan limits are clearly disclosed in the application and on its website.

The beta follows a controlled production pilot that was not publicly announced and did not involve paid acquisition. According to the company, the pilot generated early organic demand. As of 20 July 2026, Sinder said 173 accounts had been created and 62 customers had become active. Of those, 33 customers had funded their accounts, while 11 early transacting users had completed 106 card transactions worth more than AED 8,400. Customer balances had reached approximately AED 48,300.

Chris Hughes, Founder and CEO of Sinder, said the company is targeting UAE residents who travel often and want more transparency around foreign spending. He noted that exchange rates, card fees and rewards structures can make the cost of using cards abroad difficult to understand. Hughes added that the early organic demand and repeat card usage provide a strong signal as Sinder refines the experience ahead of a wider rollout.

The Sinder account and card are provided by Ruya Community Islamic Bank LLC, while Network International supports the underlying card-processing infrastructure. The card runs on the Mastercard network, giving it international acceptance for UAE-based travellers.

Sinder was founded in Dubai by Chris Hughes and Artem Kuchumov. The team said it brings fintech product, payments and operating experience from companies including Revolut and Tamara.

Beta access is currently available to eligible UAE residents through Sinder’s iOS and Android applications. The company said the rollout will expand in stages as it improves onboarding, funding, card delivery, international transactions and customer support.

Industry Analysis

Sinder’s launch reflects continued momentum in the UAE’s consumer fintech market, particularly in products aimed at cross-border spending and travel convenience. By pairing a local AED account with international card usage and clear fee disclosure, the startup is positioning itself in a segment where transparency and pricing simplicity can be key differentiators.

The early uptake during a limited pilot suggests demand for travel-focused financial products that reduce friction around foreign currency spending. If Sinder can maintain low-friction onboarding and reliable international card performance, the beta could help validate broader demand for digitally managed travel accounts in the UAE.
