Mashreq Launches Fully Digital Egypt Accounts for UAE-Based Customers
Mashreq has introduced a new digital banking service that allows UAE-based Egyptian customers to open and manage Mashreq Egypt accounts remotely through the Mashreq UAE mobile app. The launch is designed to simplify cross-border banking for Egyptian nationals living in the UAE by removing the need for physical paperwork or in-person branch visits.
The service is available to Egyptian nationals who hold a NEO, Gold, or Private account with Mashreq UAE. Through the new offering, customers can access both their UAE and Egypt accounts from a single dashboard, enabling a more integrated view of their finances across markets.
According to the bank, account holders can also transfer funds in real time. Once the Mashreq Egypt Account is activated, customers may use Quick Remit to send money instantly and without fees, further supporting cross-border money movement for expatriate clients.
Key Features of the New Service
The Mashreq Egypt Account supports transactions in Egyptian pounds and US dollars, giving customers flexibility in managing balances in both currencies. The account also includes a free debit card with high withdrawal and spending limits, along with access to lifestyle offers across dining, entertainment, and travel.
Mashreq said the new service is intended to offer a fully digital account opening experience for non-resident Egyptians, reflecting the bank’s continued focus on digital banking and customer convenience.
Executive Comment
Fernando Morillo, Group Head of Retail Banking at Mashreq, described the launch as an important milestone for the bank and its customers. He said the institution is “the first bank in the UAE to enable non-resident Egyptians to open an account in Egypt fully digitally, without the need for physical paperwork or branch visits.”
The announcement highlights Mashreq’s efforts to expand digital banking capabilities for regional customer segments with cross-border financial needs. By combining remote onboarding, unified account visibility, and instant transfers, the bank is targeting a more seamless banking experience for Egyptian expatriates in the UAE.
Industry Analysis
The launch reflects a broader trend in digital banking toward cross-border account access and remote onboarding. For banks serving expatriate communities, services that reduce administrative friction and consolidate accounts across jurisdictions can strengthen customer retention and increase engagement through mobile channels.
It also underscores the growing demand for faster remittance and account management solutions in the Gulf region, where international remittances remain an important use case. By enabling digital access to an Egypt-based account from the UAE, Mashreq is positioning itself to serve customers who want simpler, more connected banking services across their home and host markets.
