FAB Launches Jaywan Debit Card for Domestic Payments in the UAE
First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) has introduced the Jaywan Debit Card, a new payment card designed to support domestic transactions across the UAE. The launch adds another option for customers seeking a locally oriented payment solution for everyday spending, cash withdrawals, and online purchases within the country.
Jaywan is the national card scheme managed by Al Etihad Payments and backed by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) as part of the country’s sovereign payment infrastructure. FAB’s new debit card is positioned to work within that domestic network, reflecting the broader push to strengthen local payment rails and improve transaction capabilities for UAE consumers.
Supports In-Store, ATM, and Online Transactions
The Jaywan Debit Card can be used for in-person payments at local merchants, cash withdrawals from ATMs across the UAE, and online purchases on UAE-based platforms. The card is also integrated with the FAB Mobile app, giving customers access to transaction monitoring, digital servicing tools, and account management features through the bank’s mobile channel.
Security and convenience are key elements of the product. FAB said the card includes 3D Secure authentication and Chip and PIN technology. It also supports tokenised integration with digital wallets, enabling contactless payments on compatible devices and adding a layer of flexibility for customers who prefer mobile-first payment methods.
Available to Eligible FAB Customers
According to FAB, the Jaywan Debit Card is currently available to customers with eligible accounts. Existing customers can apply through the bank’s mobile app or visit a branch, while new customers must first open an account before requesting the card. Elite and Private Banking clients may also apply through their relationship managers.
Futoon Al Mazrouei, Group Head of Personal, Wealth and Business Banking at First Abu Dhabi Bank, said the launch reflects the bank’s focus on secure, innovative, and customer-oriented payment solutions that align with the UAE’s evolving financial ecosystem.
The introduction of Jaywan comes at a time when local payment infrastructure continues to gain prominence in the UAE’s financial services sector. As banks and payment providers expand domestic transaction capabilities, locally branded card schemes may play a growing role in supporting national payments goals and offering customers alternatives tailored to the local market.
Industry Analysis
FAB’s launch of the Jaywan Debit Card highlights the increasing importance of domestic payment schemes in the UAE. By supporting local merchant payments, ATM access, and online transactions through a national network, the card aligns with efforts to strengthen payment sovereignty and reduce reliance on external schemes for domestic use.
The integration with FAB Mobile and support for tokenised digital wallets also reflects a broader trend in banking toward digital servicing and contactless payment adoption. For the wider market, the move may encourage further competition among banks to offer locally enabled, mobile-ready payment products that combine security, convenience, and national payment infrastructure support.
