du Pay and GCash Launch Instant Wallet Transfers for UAE’s Filipino Community
du Pay, the digital financial services arm of UAE telecom operator du, has introduced instant wallet-to-wallet transfers to GCash accounts in the Philippines, expanding cross-border payment options for the country’s Filipino community in the UAE.
The service is designed for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who regularly send money home. With the new integration, du Pay customers in the UAE can transfer funds to any GCash wallet using only a mobile number and Emirates ID, with transactions available around the clock.
The partnership is intended to simplify remittances by offering a faster alternative to traditional transfer methods. According to du Pay, the service operates on a regulated platform and includes competitive foreign exchange rates and low fees. The provider is fully licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE.
Targeting a key remittance corridor
Remittances remain an important financial link between the UAE and the Philippines. In 2024, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas reported record OFW remittances of US$38 billion, highlighting the scale and continued importance of cross-border money transfers for Filipino households.
GCash has steadily expanded its international transfer network in recent years. Its partners include Western Union, Visa Direct, and Taptap Send, all of which have served UAE-based OFWs before the du Pay arrangement. The latest collaboration adds another channel for users looking to move funds directly into their GCash wallets.
G-Xchange, which operates GCash as a subsidiary of Mynt, manages the mobile wallet platform in the Philippines. The companies said the service is aimed at helping Filipino residents in the UAE send money home with confidence that funds can be used immediately across GCash’s services.
Executive comments
Arjun Varma, General Manager for GCash International, said the partnership is meant to ensure that “no Filipino should be left behind,” whether they are in the Philippines or abroad. He added that the tie-up gives OFWs in the UAE a faster and more convenient way to send money home.
du Pay chief executive Roberto Mancone said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to the UAE’s Filipino community. He described GCash as a telco-rooted fintech and said the partnership is a natural extension of du Pay’s cross-border payments strategy.
For a limited campaign period, customers using du Pay to send money to GCash wallets will also be eligible for additional incentives, including weekly cash prizes alongside standard transfers.
Filipino residents in the UAE can access the service by downloading or updating the du Pay app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Industry Analysis
This launch underscores the growing role of wallet-to-wallet transfers in remittance markets, where speed, convenience, and lower costs are increasingly shaping customer preferences. By connecting a UAE-based digital wallet directly with one of the Philippines’ most widely used payment platforms, du Pay and GCash are addressing a major user need among OFWs: instant access to funds at home.
The partnership also reflects a broader trend in fintech toward cross-border interoperability. As digital wallets expand their international reach, remittance providers are likely to face pressure to improve transfer times and user experience while remaining compliant with regulatory requirements. For Filipino users in the UAE, the new service adds another digital option in an already active remittance corridor.
