DWTC Free Zone Partners with Wio Bank to Expand Digital Banking Access for Businesses

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) Free Zone has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Wio Bank PJSC to improve access to digital banking services for companies operating in the free zone. The partnership is designed to simplify account opening and provide onboarding support for businesses setting up or already active within the jurisdiction.

Under the agreement, eligible DWTC Free Zone companies will benefit from faster account opening processes, priority onboarding and dedicated relationship support. The collaboration also aims to make Wio Bank’s digital banking solutions more accessible through the broader ecosystem of services offered to free zone license holders.

In addition to banking access, Wio Bank plans to engage the business community through selected events and co-branded initiatives. The two parties also said they will explore the possibility of launching a co-branded DWTC Free Zone corporate card with benefits tailored for businesses in the ecosystem.

DWTC Free Zone said the agreement is part of its efforts to strengthen the regulatory and commercial environment for companies operating in the zone. The free zone has recently introduced a Multiple Share Class Framework, which allows companies to issue a wider range of share classes to support different investment and governance structures.

Leadership comments

Abdalla Al Banna, VP of Free Zone Regulatory Operations at DWTC Free Zone, said the partnership expands the range of services available to companies in the zone and is intended to help them establish and scale more efficiently.

“Through this partnership with Wio Bank, we are expanding the ecosystem of services available to companies within our Free Zone, enabling them to establish and scale more efficiently while reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global hub for entrepreneurship and investment,” Al Banna said.

Prateek Vahie, Chief Commercial Officer at Wio Bank PJSC, said the collaboration is focused on supporting businesses at an early stage of their journey by improving onboarding and offering digital banking tools from day one.

“Partnering with DWTC Free Zone allows us to support businesses at the moment they need it most. By offering faster onboarding, dedicated relationship support and intuitive digital banking tools, we aim to give DWTC Free Zone companies the confidence and clarity to manage their finances from day one,” Vahie said.

Industry Analysis

The partnership reflects a broader trend in the UAE toward integrating banking services more closely with business setup ecosystems. For free zone operators, such collaborations can reduce friction for new companies by making account opening and financial management more efficient. For digital banks, these agreements provide direct access to a concentrated base of business customers that may value speed, convenience and dedicated support.

By linking banking services with free zone operations, DWTC Free Zone and Wio Bank are positioning their offerings around business enablement rather than standalone financial services. If successful, the initiative could help strengthen the appeal of DWTC Free Zone for startups and SMEs seeking a streamlined launch environment in Dubai.
